Tap with NFC
Hold a compatible phone close to the tag to open its link.
Attach it to your bag, keys or everyday essentials. If someone finds your item, a tap or scan gives them a way to reach you.
Hold a compatible phone close to the tag to open its link.
Open your camera, point it at the code and follow the link.
Keep your number private or enable direct calls and WhatsApp.
Have your tag, your phone and access to your email ready. Already linked your tag? Open My Items to continue.
Scan the QR code with your phone camera and open the link, or tap the NFC tag with a compatible phone. An unlinked Item Tag opens the activation page.
Choose Sign in to activate, or Create an account. Use an email address you can access. This account will own and manage your tag.
Choose Email me a linking code. Enter the six-digit code from your email and select Verify and link. The code expires after 10 minutes and only the newest code works.
Select Set up my item. Give it a recognisable name, choose an emoji and add a photo if you like. If you have several tags, check that you select the right code for this item.
Email alerts go to your account email. For calls and WhatsApp, open Advanced, add an Owner contact with a phone number and enable Show phone publicly. You can also add return instructions.
In Advanced, check Publish this Item Profile is enabled, then save your item. Scan the physical tag again, ideally in a private browser window, to check the profile and contact options a finder will see.
Tap or scan the attached tag. You do not need to activate it or sign in.
Look at the name, photo and any return instructions.
Use WhatsApp or Call owner if available. Or select Alert the owner to send a private finder report by email.
Add a useful message and a way to reach you. You can include a photo or choose to share your current location. Submit the report and check the confirmation shown on the page.
These buttons are unavailable when no contact has a public phone number. In My Items, select your item, choose Edit item, then open Advanced. Under Owner contacts, add a name and phone number, enable Show phone publicly and save. Use a number with its country code, such as +27 for South Africa. WhatsApp also needs that number to be registered with WhatsApp.
No special Tap This app is needed to open a tag. The link opens in a web browser. Owners sign in to activate and edit their tags; finders can view a published item and send a finder report without a Tap This account. The phone needs an internet connection.
No. The tag opens an online profile; it does not broadcast a live location. A finder can choose to share their current location when submitting a report. Location sharing is optional and requires their browser permission.
A finder can see the published item information, photos, return instructions and any phone number you have chosen to share publicly. Your private serial number and hidden contact details are not displayed. Avoid putting private information in the item name, photos or public description.
Check the email address shown on the activation page and look in your junk or spam folder. Once the resend countdown ends, request another code. Use the newest email code within 10 minutes.
If it belongs to your account, sign in to that account and open My Items to finish setup or edit it. If it belongs to another account, you cannot claim it as a new tag. Contact Tap This at info@tapthis.co.za for help.
Yes. Open My Items to edit the name, photo, contacts or return details. You can also assign or reassign a tag code to another item in your account. Each physical tag in a bundle has its own code, so set up and test each one separately.
Make sure your phone supports NFC and, where required, that NFC is enabled. Unlock your phone and hold its NFC reading area close to the tag. If it still does not open, scan the QR code with your camera instead.
Start with the tag in your hand, or explore Item Tags for the things you care about.
